Morning Dhyana of Shiva (शिव प्रातः स्मरण) !

Morning Dhyana of Shiva (शिव प्रातः स्मरण) जय केदारनाथ

Morning Dhyana of Shiva (शिव प्रातः स्मरण)

When we get up from the bed in the morning, as a devotee the first thing we do is to think of God. This is called "Pratah Smaran-प्रातः स्मरण". Generally, we think of God and say "Pranam" or "Namaskar" to Him. But there have been beautiful "Shlokas" written in Sanskrit for thinking and praying Gods in the morning. These prayers have three parts:-

1. "Pratah Smaran-प्रातः स्मरण" (Thinking in the morning)

2. "Pratah Naman-प्रातः नमन" (Saying Namaskar in the morning)

3. "Pratah Bhajan-प्रातः भजन" (Repeatedly saying the name in the morning)

A devotee of Shiva prays Him in the morning by reciting "Shiva Pratah Smaran Stotra". It is a short and beautiful 'Three Shloka Prayer' that makes the start of the day full of energy and happiness.

Morning Dhyana of Shiva

(शिव प्रातः स्मरण स्तोत्रम )

Pratah smarami  bhavabhitiharam suresham
Gangadharam vrishabh-vahan  ambikesham
Khatwang shool  waradabhaya hastamisham
Sansar  rogharam     aushadham  adwitiyam |

Pratah   namami  girisham  girijardha deham
Sarga   sthiti   pralaya   karanam   aadidevam
Vishweshwaram Vijitavishwa manobhiramam
Sansar  rogharam     aushadham  adwitiyam |

Pratah bhajami   shivamekam anantamadyam
Vedant vedyam anagham purusham mahantam
Namadi bheda-rahitam      ch vikara shoonyam
           Sansar   rog-haram   aushadham    adwitiyam |

(Meaning: In the morning time I think of that God who destroys the worldly fear, is God of gods, keeps Ganga on his head and bull as a vehicle, is God of Ambika and in his hands are "Khatwang", trident, "Varad" & "Abhaya Mudra". He is an incomparable medicine for the world-disease.

In the morning time, I say "Namaskar" to that God "Gireesh" whose half body is Goddess 'Parvati', who is the reason behind 'creation, present stage, and destruction', is the God since before the beginning, is the God of the world, conqueror of the world and fascinating. He is an incomparable medicine for the world-disease.

In the morning time, I repeatedly recite the name of that God Shiva who is only one that is even since before the beginning and will be there even after the end, who can be known through 'Vedanta', is without sin, is the Great "Purush" that is beyond the differentiation by names, etc, and is beyond the defects. He is an incomparable medicine for the world-disease.)

After these prayers, there is a stanza that says the importance of these prayers. It is thus said:-

Pratah Samuthaya Shivam Vichitya,

Shloka trayam ye anudinam pathanti,

Te dukhjatam bahu janm sanchitam

Hitwa padam yanti tadeva Shambhoh.

(Meaning: A person who brings Shiva in his 'dhyana' daily in the morning and then recites these three Slokas, he becomes free of  all the accumulated miseries of many births and attains the blissful stage of Shiva.)
